I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster in the 5 seconds it took me to read a message from my dear friend Antonio today.
"IDK if you guys all got the email, but Dave Holland just cancelled the concert due to a family emergency. BUT, do not fear. Chris Potter is now headlining the concert with his group "Underground." It should still be epic."
...I'm like, GTFO. What a thing to happen!!! Chris Potter, my absolute favorite tenor player ever, the man who ignited my love for jazz bass clarinet...not only do I get to hear him live, but now he's bringing his own group, playing his own songs, and by some VERY strange miracle this all happened and I'm sitting front and center at this concert. Wicka whaaaat? Wicka WORDS!!
HOH BOY.
Much love to Nick LeWarne, for being a deartit and subbing for me in pep band at the basketball game that night. It's nice to know we alto whales have eachother's backs :]]
ALSO, kind of on the same tangent, Caitlin got a 3rd-row seat in her car so we can fit everyone in 1 vehicle for the ride to Des Moines. Just thought I'd comment on how awesome that is.
On Christmas Eve, a childhood dream of mine was fulfilled...After months of waiting for it to come out, I was finally able to go see Voyage of the Dawn Treader. For those of you who don't care to know (for whatever reason), that's the new Narnia movie I gabbed about a while back. Let me tell you...It was amazing.
Name: The Chronicles of Narnia - Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Plot: During the war, Lucy and Edmund are living in England with their cousin Eustace, a pompous little turdburglar who hates everything cool and looks like a ferret. One day, they get swallowed by a painting and end up in Narnia. After being rescued by my favorite piece of make-believe mancandy, Caspian, the three are informed of Caspian's quest to bring all of the Narnian world to peace. They go to the Lone Islands, and are captured by slave traders. Suddenly, they watch from the window of a dungeon as some people are just floating there and get eaten by this stanky green mist. After giving their captors a good ol' Narnian ass whooping, they decide to go kill the mist, marking the beginning of the voyage. I won't give anything else away, go see it for yourself.
Favorite Part: There's a scene towards the end, when Eustace is on a little sandy island all by himself, a poor injured little dragon...seemingly out of nowhere, Aslan appears, scratching at the sand. As he does this, glowing claw-marks appear on Eustace as his dragon skin is shredded away...Aslan roars majestically, and he's back to normal, changed for the better. The lighting behind the great lion, combined with the music and special effects...it just seems so surreal...I was in awe. And at the end of the movie, I actually cried. Not even ashamed of it. I sat there with tears rolling down my dumbstruck face.
BTW, my hair's black now. I didn't mean for it to turn out so dark, I thought it would just go to dark brown, but apparently I left it on too long...cuz it's straight up black, fools. It looks alright, just different :P
I went back to WHS today to visit some teachers, and everyone freaked out over it. Priceless!! Haaaaaaa.
